Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the new RACEceiver 1600 work outside of NASCAR?
A: Yes! The 1600 model will work on any track or venue where drivers are talking on channels between 450-470 mtz. We have found that includes most of the teams and drivers. Occasionally, we run into a team talking in the 800 band, but it's rare. Also, last year, one of the drivers on the NASCAR circuit had interference on all the teams channels, so for one race (in Las Vegas) the team used a freq slightly below 450 mhz. In a rare case like that, the 1600 would not pick up that team. The following week, that driver was back on his Primary Channel, so fortunately, it is not a big problem

Q: Is it easy to set up and use?
A:
Very easy. Just follow the instructions. NO MORE PROGRAMMING! Your RACEceiver is race ready with over 1600 channels preprogrammed. If you can operate a remote control, you can operate your RACEceiver. Simply print one of our channel charts (the one for your model) off the web and you are ready to go. Also, since the channel and the frequencies appear on the RACEceiver LCD, it's pretty easy to pick up the frequencies for your favorite driver at the track with a program or frequency list, the locate the frequencies you need on the RACEceiver . It's really pretty easy and this method is a good back-up if you forget to print a channel chart or don't have ready access to a PC.

Q: What is the typical reception range of a RACEceiver?
A:
Your RACEceiver was designed to receive signal anywhere in a typical NASCAR track. In our tests, Reception was 1-2 miles in a standard setting, and well over that range in some set ups. Reception can depend on many factors, like the strength of transmission, line of sight obstructions, etc. but the RACEceiver was designed with plenty of power for receiving signal in and around the tracks.

Q: What do you do if frequencies change?
A:
First, a little education.
Most frequencies assigned to racing teams fall within a certain band on the UHF spectrum. Most drivers or teams have a primary channel, and several alternates in case they have interference or a conflict on the primary frequency. The RACEceiver SC 213 and SC251 come preprogrammed with most of these channels. You will notice on the channel guide that there is a good bit of cross over in frequency usage between NASCAR drivers and Bush or ARCA teams. Since the races do not happen at the same time, there is no conflict.
At times, a driver will change teams, or a team will drop or add a frequency. Most changes will simply be between two frequencies already preprogrammed into the RACEceiver , so the driver will appear on a different channel, but will still be covered. Simply come back to the RACEceiver website and download an updated channel guide any time you need one. We keep it up to date with recent changes, and you will want to print out a new one before a race or at the beginning of a new season.
Finally, keep in mind that the frequencies used today have largely been consistent in recent years.
Ultimately, this is one of the reasons we developed the RACEceiver 1600. If a team changes frequencies or adds one, the 1600 will almost certainly have the new channel, since it has the entire band used for this type of sporting event.

Q: Can I use a splitter?
A:
YES! However, keep in mind that you will use battery life more quickly, so take an extra spare or two. Also, we recommend the use of a stereo to mono adapter.

Q: How often should I change the battery?
A: The battery should be changed at the start of each racing night. Also take the battery out while you are not using to ensure quality throughout the racing program. A good quality AAA battery should last 5-6 hours. Never use “no name” batteries. We recommend that you use Duracell Procell for best results. Even though you turn power off, it still draws power to keep memory. To sustain battery life you should remove the battery when not in use.

Q: All I hear is static?
A:
Check the Squelch – It should be on or change the Battery

Q: Display numbers are counting down over and over.
A:
Change the Battery

Q: To loud
A:
Use the in-line volume control to reduce the volume

Q: Not at clear as last race or last use.
A:
Change the Battery

Q: Sounds scratchy or rough.
A:
Turn the volume down

Q: Where can I use my RACEceiver?
A:
Any Nextel & Indy Series Event. Many short tracks including WOO series. For a list of frequencies email us at Frequencies@Racedaywireless.com or click here for a list. For local Dirt Tracks, you will have to email us to obtain those frequencies.
