Interface Data Unit (IDU) |
|

IDU front view |
The Interface Data Unit (IDU) acts as the central data
management junction between the computer, Decoders, and
additional devices. It coordinates both incoming and
outgoing signals to and from the computer, synchronizing
data for the entire system. The IDU receives information
from the decoders via the RaceBus Link. It then
coordinates, and transmits this data via the RS-232 to
the computer for further analysis. This information is
compiled at the computer and sent through the IDU to
devices such as scoreboards, driver results printers,
GRIDMaster hand-held controllers and third party
devices. Linking the entire system to one computer
centralizes operations and reduces confusion caused by
using numerous information centers or multiple event
personnel attempting to coordinate operations manually.

Decoders |
 |
The Decoder determines the crossing time and reads the
unique identification number of the transmitter on each
vehicle as the vehicle passes over the Loop Antenna. The
Decoder then sends the crossing information to the
InDoor Unit via the RaceBus Link. Each Decoder may be
connected to a Loop Antenna 30 feet (recommended) in
width. To cover wider tracks, multiple Decoders and Loop
Antennas are generally chained together. Multiple
Decoders are also used to track split times and pit row
activity. Decoders can easily be added to the Race
Management System as desired. This makes for a simple
scalable system that fits different budgets and
different tracks.

Rechargeable Transmitter |

 |
The transmitters are light, compact devices attached to
each vehicle. Each transmitter is assigned a unique
identification number to differentiate individual
vehicles. As the vehicle passes over the Loop Antenna,
the Decoder reads this identification number and
determines a crossing time. The information is then sent
digitally via the RaceBus to the IDU.
The transmitters have convenient LED indicators for
operational status. A green LED indicates the
transmitter is working. A red LED indicates a low
battery condition. There is no guesswork involved in
determining battery status. During a race the
transmitter is also capable of relaying a low battery
status to the Race Management System and informing the
system operator of this condition.
Specifications:
Dimensions: Approx. 3" x 2 x 1" (~
7.62 x 5.2 x 2.55cm)

Battery Life: 7 Days
Charge Time: 3 Hours
Operational Indicator: LED
Low Battery Indicator: LED
Humidity: 90% Relative |

Hardwire Transmitter |
 |
The hardwire transmitters are light, compact devices
powered by the vehicle's own power supply. Hook this up
to your vehicle and forget worrying about whether you
charged up the transmitter. Each transmitter is assigned
a unique identification number to differentiate
individual vehicles. As the vehicle passes over the Loop
Antenna, the Decoder reads this identification number
and determines a crossing time. The information is then
sent digitally via the RaceBus to the IDU. The
transmitters have convenient LED indicators for
operational status. A green LED indicates the
transmitter is working. A red LED indicates a low
voltage condition. There is no guesswork involved in
determining whether the transmitter was installed
correctly.
Specifications:
Dimensions: Approx. 3"
x 2 x 1" (~ 7.62 x 5.2 x 2.55cm)
Weight: Approx. 4oz (100 grams)
Temp Range: 32-122° F (0-50° C)
Voltage Requirement: 9-14 Volts
Current Draw: < 30 milliamps
Operational Indicator: LED
Low Voltage Indicator: LED
Humidity: 90% Relative |
